These core research facilities are available to (as appropriate) all staff in the Centre.

Microscope Liverpool NMR Centre for Structural Biology

The Liverpool NMR Centre for Structural Biology is located in purpose-built accommodation adjacent to the School’s Life Sciences and Biosciences buildings. The Centre houses one 800 MHz and one 600 MHz solution-state spectrometer, both equipped with cryogenic probeheads, and a 400 MHz solid-state spectrometer. In addition, there is a computing laboratory in the Centre for data processing and analysis.

Biomedical Electron Microscopy Unit
Our EM Unit provides state-of-the-art EM and preparatory facilities enabling applications ranging from basic high resolution imaging of immuno-labelled samples through to frozen hydrated cryo-EM and 3D tomography. Expert academic and general staff are available to provide support ranging from initial project discussion and planning through to training, application of techniques and assistance with data interpretation.
We are also interested in supporting applications by post-docs or potential research fellows to come and join us.

Centre for Cell Imaging

The Centre for cell imaging, equipped with world class facilities has grown into a core facility within the University.
The equipment now includes unique combinations of hardware and software to support long-term, time-lapse, multi-parameter fluorescent and luminescent imaging. A range of confocal microscopes, which are able to take a series of sections in depth and sophisticated software allows 3D images of cells to be created. As well as the six microscopes a fast Fluorescence / luminescence / absorption automated plate reader with its own automated cell incubator; and a flow cytometer and sorter are all installed in a state-of-the-art, custom-built suite of laboratories in the University of Liverpool’s Life Sciences Building.

Centre Resources
Donation Station Update
Managers from local Cancer Research UK shops have been delighted to receive more than 513 bags worth
up to £15,390. Please keep your donations coming in so we can reach our new target of 350 bags. Collection points are in the Centre's foyer, Duncan Building, and DSO office.
Patient and Public Involvement
Many patients and public members work with researcher professionals and clinicians (e.g. doctors, nurses) and get actively involved in the different stages of research and associated activities. Active involvement in clinical research is very different from being a participant in a study. Find out more.
Functional Proteomics Facility
State-of-the-art facilities for protein characterization
The Functional Proteomics Facility is well-equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and comprises facilities for proteomics, protein chemistry, protein expression and biophysics.
Liverpool Microarray Facility

The Liverpool Microarray Facility (LMF) aims to provide state-of-the-art microarray services for users from academic and non-academic institutions. LMF undertakes the design and fabrication of customised microarray platforms for genomics research. Customised array production allows for flexibility of design and application of array formats.
We are a service centre for Affymetrix products, including their new NimbleExpress product line. In addition NERC funded projects should also acknowledge NERC itself. We provide support with all aspects of microarray usage such as experimental design, sample preparation, hybridisation, data acquisition and bioinformatics.
