21st October - Bioinformatics Workshop

The Centre held a Bioinformatics workshop today highlighting the excellent statistics and bioinformatics support available to all members of the Centre. The workshop was well-attended and colleagues heard from Jithesh, Bryony Lloyd, Brian Lane and Trevor Cox on Sequence Analysis, Systems Biology, Cross PlatformTechnologies for Biomarkers, Microarray Analysis, and Statistical Aspects of Bioinformatics.

Bioinformatics Workshop

These core statistician facilities are available to all staff in the Centre.

The last few years have seen a huge rise in the range of fields that require computational analysis or bioinformatics. In order to manage and process large datasets, the University has recruited a team of statisticians and bioinformaticians with complementary skills.

The Stats and Bioinformatics group is headed by Dr Trevor Cox, Senior Lecturer in Medical Statistics.

Liverpool has invested in a state-of-the-art new generation genome sequencing instrument which is available as a service for the scientific user community.

The facility also has the latest computational tools and trained staff to deliver bioinformatic services for data handling and analysis.

Centre Seminar Series

The Centre's seminars are held every Friday at 1pm in the Cancer Research UK Centre Lecture Theatre. All welcome to attend.

Donation Station Update

	Managers from local Cancer Research UK shops have been delighted to receive more than 513 bags worth
up to £15,390. Please keep your donations coming in so we can reach our new target of 350 bags. Collection points are in the Centre's foyer, Duncan Building, and DSO office.

Patient and Public Involvement

Many patients and public members work with researcher professionals and clinicians (e.g. doctors, nurses) and get actively involved in the different stages of research and associated activities. Active involvement in clinical research is very different from being a participant in a study. Find out more.
